(Summer Term 2016)
Welcome back to our new school term. Our topic this term is 'Mini Zoo' and the children will have the opportunity to find out about different animals, their life cycles and what animals need to stay fit and healthy.
If you have any stories, pop-up books, photographs or artefacts related to our topic we would love to see them.
Farm animals -
We have been learning all about animals that live on the farm. We talked about baby animals and he sounds that they make. We enjoyed singing 'Old MacDonald had a farm' and Finley brought in masks for us to wear.
At the vets -
We have been learning about the important job of being a vet and looking after animals that are poorly. We have played in our vet role play area and have taken it in turns to look after the animals that are ill!
Pets -
A big thank you to all the parents that have brought in pets from home for us to look at. We enjoyed learning about the different pets and how to care for them.
Caterpillars -
We have our very own caterpillars in class that we are watching grow bigger every day. They are currently curled up safely inside their chrysalis and we are waiting patiently for them to come out as butterflies!!!

What have we been learning?
(Autumn Term 1)
We thoroughly enjoyed our 'Dinosaur' topic. We have listened to the story of 'Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs' and have had great fun drawing and painting pictures of our favourite dinosaurs. We have used our toy dinosaurs in the small world play area and made our very own dinosaur tent to look out for missing dinosaurs! We enjoyed modelling with the playdough to create dinosaurs with horns like the Triceratops and big sharp teeth on the T-Rex! We have also made our very own colourful dinosaurs using paper plates and decorated them with 2D shapes, they are displayed in the classroom, come in and have a look.

What have we been learning?
(Autumn Term 2)
We have been discussing the seasons and looking for signs of Autumn all around us. We enjoyed finding conkers and coloured leaves on our walk around the school grounds. We discussed the changes to the trees through the different seasons. We had great fun using the fingerpaints to print colourful Autumn trees to display in the classroom. We also had great fun practising and performing our Christmas concert 'The Sleepy Shepherd' and learning all about the first Christmas when baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem. We finished our term with a Christmas party and a visit to see Santa at Cardiff Castle - Nadolig Llawen!

What have we been learning?
(Spring Term 1)
We have enjoyed listening to the story of 'The 3 Little Pigs'. We pretended to be the little pigs building their houses of straw, sticks and bricks and the big bad wolf blowing them down. We collaged the houses using straw and sticks and printed using bricks for our display in the classroom.
We listened to the story of 'The Billy Goats Gruff', we acted out the story and enjoyed being the troll! We also discussed the sizes of the goats and tried to build bridges for them.
We made gingerbread houses (from Hansel and Gretel) using 2D shapes. They are displayed in our classroom and look great - Come in and have a look.
We celebrated Chinese New Year by tasting Chinese food (noodles and rice), making lanterns and dragon puppets.
We enjoyed tasting pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and we held our very own pancake races outside!
We also worked on making Pop-ups with Jack and the Beanstalk story and activities.
We completed our topic with a fantastic fairytale party!
