For more information about Big Maths, please see our Numeracy page, our help booklets or feel free to ask us any questions.

Our topic for the Summer Term is Mini Zoo. The children will be learning about different animals, their life cycles and what they need to stay alive and be well. We will be writing instructions and explanations, studying endangered animals and learning about looking after pets.  We will also introduce an incubator into the classroom containing chicken eggs. We will be giving the children hands on experience and the opportunity to observe change and growth for themselves.
The role-play area will be transformed into a Garden Centre and a Vet’s surgery after half term. Pupils will work together in the making of props and posters to aid their play.

We had an energetic karate session as part of our Healthy Week activities.
We had a great time when a vet came to talk to us about his job.  He even brought in his own pet tortoise!
Mrs Llewellyn Jones came in to talk to us about her job as a Dog Groomer.  We loved seeing pictures of the dogs that she grooms.  We saw some of her grooming tools and even smelt some special dog perfumes!
We have loved spending time outside...when the sun has been out!
Mr Trigg brought in some eggs for our incubator.  They will take about 21 days to hatch.  We have to turn them over each day and make sure that the incubator stays at around 38 degrees.  We were very excited to see the chicks hatching and loved looking after them in class.

We used special hand gel and a UV light to make sure we were washing our hands properly.

We have been reading 'What the Ladybird Heard'.  We decided to make our own farmyard in the class room.

We visited Cefn Mably Farm and had great fun!
Our topic for the Spring Term was Pop - Up.  In this topic pupils looked at a range of pop-up books, experimented with the mechanisms and created their own pop up invitation for a fairy tale party.  We read and retold many traditional tales and enjoyed using our role play theatre to retell some of the stories.
The Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk sent us letters with tasks to complete.  We made the Giant's shoe and belt, found out what he looks like and where he lives.  We made bridges for the Three Billy Goats Gruff and parachutes for Jack.  We had to work really hard as a team to complete the tasks set.  To end our topic, we enjoyed a Fairy tale party.  Have a look at our pictures below!
Year 2 Class Museum.  To end our Fire topic we opened our very own class museum!  We made clay pots, pictures of the Great Fire of London and Samuel Pepys and created a class book of our computer work.  We even opened our own Pudding Lane bakery selling scones that we made in the morning - we made sure that we turned off the ovens to avoid a fire at Llanfair!
Our topic this term is Fire, Fire! We have been learning about the Great Fire of London.  We visited Cowbridge Fire Station and Tesco Bakery as part of our topic work.  Have a look at some of our pictures below.

We looked around the bakery and saw all of the machines used to make bread.  We went to the fish counter and looked at all the different types of fish that you can buy.  The cheese counter was great fun - we were able to taste lots of cheese!
At the fire station we were taught about fire safety.  We looked inside the fire engines and saw all of the equipment that fire fighters use.  We really enjoyed using the hose and some of us were even allowed to wear the uniform!  It was very heavy!

We enjoyed designing and playing our own target games in PE.  We then had to explain them to our friends - they loved them!
Activity Week -  2nd November - 6th November
We thoroughly enjoyed our activity week.  We were split into 3 teams.  We had to decide on a team name and then create a headband for our team leader.  We had to work as a team to complete a range of challenges.  We all worked very hard and had lots of fun too!
